About the Artisans
VILAC (pronounced Vee-lock) lies in a beautiful little village called Moirans-en-Montagne in the JuraMountains.
Blessed with a rich forested landscape and fertile soil, the farmers and tradespeople built a reputation for honest work and high-quality products. In fact, Vilac is one of the 2 last remaining companies who employ local families to help with production.
The story began in 1911 in Moirans-en-Montagne, the French capital of wooden toys, when Mr. Narcisse Villet created a woodturning workshop called “Maison Villet”. In 1951, Villet sons took over the well known workshop and in 1979 they became Vilac, the contraction of Villet and Lacquer that is used for their toys.
Vilac has always used wood from managed forests. They respect biodiversity & sustainability.
Vilac was awarded the “Enterprise du Patrimoine Vivant” label or "Living Heritage Company” - recognition by the French government of exceptional artisanal and industrial excellence.
